I guess everyone has a lady at church that always makes a "pound cake". Bertha was that person at Dwight Baptist Church. Her pound cake was the BEST! She said her secret was Gold Medal Flour and starting the cake in a cold oven.
1/2 Pound of Margarine
1/2 Pound of Criscoe (either regular or buttered flavor)
3 Cups Sugar
Cream all of the above together.
Then add:
5 Eggs
Mix together in a bowl:
3 Cups Gold Medal Flour (All Purpose)
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
Alternate the flour mixture with
1 Cup Milk with 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Added to it.
Bake at 325 Degrees for about an hour or until a cake tester comes back clean. BE SURE TO START IN A COLD OVEN!!!!!!
This makes a LARGE pound cake. I can make one bundt pan cake and 1 loaf pan (my bundt pan is a small one) or you can make 2 loaf pans.
ENJOY and be sure to let me know how it turns out!!!!!

I have got to try making Bertha's cake! Sounds delicious!
I would also love your support on the ELLE DECOR window that I decorated for the Big Window Challenge this year. As we all know, AT doesn't make it easy, but you can vote TWICE a day. Once online & the other by texting "1" to 89800.
Your support means the world to me!!

Eddie

Sounds delicious! My mother used to make wonderful pound cake, I would eat it for breakfast!
Katherine
I love pound cake! My mother used to make the best I've ever eaten, but I never got the recipe. I'm going to give this one a try... even though we can't get Gold Medal Flour here in Australia. (another reason why I want to move home to California!)
I'll let you know how it turns out!!
