For many years the cafe was open Monday through Saturday. In the late 1960's the cafe began closing on Saturday and the Wednesday menu changed a little. This is the menu we served when we were opened six days a week.
Wednesday's Menu
Chicken and Dumplings
Roast Beef and Gravy
Baked Ham
Creamed Potatoes
Pinto Beans
Cream Style Corn
Candied Yams
Cauliflower with Cheese Sauce
English Peas
Fried Squash
When the cafe started closing on Saturday the menu changed. We replaced the Chicken and Dumplings with Chicken and Dressing (which was one of the Saturday meats). I missed having the dumplings because we never had those again.
I hope you will add your memories of the cafe to the comments!

I agree that their chicken and dumplings were yummy!!! My dad loved chicken and dumplings too. Mother really never cooked them, so that was always one of things we would order when eating out. I remember how good it always smelled when walking in the restaurant and how friendly everyone was...especially Jack..hehe. He would flit from table to table with that little dish towel draped across his arm, talking to everyone! And he would sometimes come by the table to tell me..."If you want a piece of pie today, you better get one now!" I could use one right now!
I MISS WEST GADSDEN CAFE!! I can't tell you how much I love for that food. If you loved me and Jane enough, you'd cook us some country fried steak and gravy! lol
Mmmmm... everything sounds so good, that I don't know if I could choose!
I haven't had chicken and dumplings in years, so I might see if I can make some this week..
My guy would love me!
